Weight loss goals need patience and discipline

It is not weight but inertia that weighs down most overweight people. That is why you need to set weight loss goals. The goals will not only give you a reason to shed weight but also a roadmap to proceed.

There are three goals you need to set when you are planning to lose weight. These are: prevent further weight gain, reduce body weight and maintain a lower body weight over time. Each is equally important, and should be considered a sub-goal.

You must realize that a pound not gained is a pound shed. So begin by evaluating your present mental, physical and spiritual condition. Often a negative outlook leads to stress and anxiety-related eating binges. People eat because it is a comforting thing to do. Very often, obesity is the result of unhappiness not the cause of it. So get down to eliminating whatever it is that’s making you unhappy and while at it also eliminate those sodas, fries and sweets.

Your next step should be to set a weight reduction goal. This requires great patience. You cannot become three sizes smaller overnight. Instead you should be happy if you shed 10 per cent of your weight over a period of six months. Once you achieve this all-important goal, you can be ready for some more weight loss, because now you can believe that you can shed weight. Belief is the most important requirement in any weight loss program.

Your final goal should be to ensure that you don’t get the pounds back. Without this goal you would be back where you started. A well-planned diet and regular exercises are a must to stop the fat from accumulating again. So, don’t give up. You may have achieved your first target but the road is much longer. You should not allow your fat to pile up again.
